“I live by goosebumps.” –Quincy Jones
Twice this week I have been elevated beyond words in the most unexpected ways. Both involved the music of Sting.
The first came from a 30-second video clip shared by Cheryl Richardson, live from the Royal Albert Hall in London (via her Facebook page). In the clip Sting is playing “Roxanne” with the Royal London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Was it Sting’s sultry voice taking Roxanne to new heights of elegant perfection? Was it the added full-body richness of the orchestra accompanying him? Was it the fact that I’d had a chance to “be” in this grand hall for a split second thanks to Cheryl sponaneous gift?
All of it together, no doubt, did something to me that resulted in a divine ripple effect of pure ecstatic joy.
The second heart-melting moment happend not long afterwards. I was deleting some of the shows on my DVR and came upon a dance routine from So You Think You Can Dance, one of my most favorite shows on TV. Though I’d seen this piece from Season 7 countless times, it wasn’t until I looked for it on YouTube and watched it up close on my laptop that I melted again.
Choreographed by the brilliant Mia Michaels to Sting’s orchestral version of “Every Little Thing She Does is Magic,” this beauty of a performance is a rush of joy. [See it below]
Music, beauty, and the feeling that we are all held in some way by a cosmic back-up orchestra…
…that is my gateway to magic.
