Messy or Not Messy?

“As long as man stands in his own way, everything seems to be in his way.”–Ralph Waldo Emerson

Clutter is a relative term. For some people, a wildly messy home or workplace can be nourishing. For others it can be annoying, or downright disturbing. Your home may be beautiful and have all the perfectly appointed everything, and still be “cluttered.” Why? If you (or previous occupants) have experienced stress, internal pain, suppressed emotions, or cannot embrace the issues that are plaguing you, you create a different, energetic type of clutter which can be just as harmful – or even toxic – to yourself, your home, and the environment at large. This invisible form of clutter shows up in all manner of ways and could fill a whole other book. For our purposes, I will refer to here simply as Mental Clutter and Emotional Clutter respectively.

If you’re still not sure you have clutter in your home or life, you can try this little acid test:

  • I am living my best life.
  • I am doing what I love.
  • I can get through the day easily without a fear thought, or one of my buttons getting pressed.
  • I accept things as they are.

If you answered no to one or more of the above, there is probably a little (visible or invisible) clutter getting in the way.”
