It doesn’t matter if you live in a sprawling mansion surrounded by an old growth forest, or a tiny hovel apartment overlooking the town dump; if your spirit feels nourished and held, lifted and light, consider yourself blessed.
You can argue that it helps to have good raw materials to work with: a good location, good bones, and good juju from previous occupants. But creating a nourishing nest or landing pad isn’t solely dependent on what you luck into, inherit, or can buy. A clear and spacious home is something that you fundamentally attract, and cultivate, by being clear and spacious yourself.
In the end, it is the conscious infusions of love, light, and laughter that transform a house that “you live in” into a nourishing home that “lives in you.”
If you’re wondering what a happy home might look and feel like, I invite you to steep in the beautiful documentary below. Though it features a home and a location that is unique to its occupants, what it conveys in spades are the energetic qualities of love, light, and laughter that are universal and available to all us everywhere. It is also a perfect example of what happens when we turn the five keys (or “Five S’s”) into a way of life: slow down, simplify, sense, surrender, self-care.
The fifteen-minute movie is called “Minka: A Farmhouse in Japan.” If it has the same effect on you as it did me, it will lift, touch, and calm you. It will take you on a journey to that sweet, timeless place called Spacious.
Enjoy!… And tell us how it makes you feel in the comment thread.
What is one thing you can do for one minute today to infuse your home and life with a little more love, light, and laughter? Tell us that too.
Beautiful, thank you for sharing.
I just realised I didn’t really answer your questions, the video made me feel thoughtful and peaceful. And I’m not sure what I can achieve in one minute, light a candle and put some music on perhaps? Off to do that now.
Hi Jenni,
Thanks for your note and letting us know how it made you feel.
All best!
Stephanie
This documentary doesn’t have anything to do with getting spacious or clearing the clutter. Yes they have rebuilt the farm house using the same materials but they had to spend on rebuilding & labour
Hi Hema,
You’re right. It is not about “getting” anything or “clearing” at all. The point of my post wasn’t to offer tips on how to clear, but instead give an example of what a clear home and spacious life might FEEL like.
When we can anchor that kind of intention into our practice (through our five senses), it makes it easier to do the work required to achieve it. Make sense?
Thanks for writing.
Happy clearing!
Stephanie
Hello Imke!
I’m so happy that you enjoyed it too. For me, that good feeling stayed with for days. It’s still there, in fact. The sounds of the rain, the quiet, the peace…touched my heart too.
Thanks for writing!
All best,
Stephanie
What I can feel, is the Love. I feel a fullness in my being, brings tears right now.
What I can do in one minute…is to feel that love and let it permeate my whole being, my home (OM). Thank you
