This flower caught my eye at sunset the other day. The afternoon light was incredible, and there it was, doing its glorious thing of simply be-ing.

I ran for my iPhone, zoomed in, and clicked.

Later, after I’d uploaded the image, I saw that it wasn’t just a single flower any more. Hiding in plain sight I could see the crinkled vine shaped like an ampersand, the dark leaves mixed in with the light ones, sibling buds at different stages of growth. All of it together, with the flower petals against the backdrop of the late afternoon sky, took my breath away.

Who doesn’t love being stunned awake by beauty when you least expect it?

The camera helps. So too the willingness to slow down and detach from outcomes.

What do you see right now when you look up from this screen? What thing of beauty catches your eye? What do you see that you hadn’t noticed before?

Take it in. Take your time. Allow whatever it is to reveal itself.

There’s a lot of magic out there. And, as Georgia O’Keefe once famously wrote, “Seeing takes time.”

There are a lot more ways to grow your “seeing” muscle.  To see what they are this month, click HERE, and scroll down the page.
