The video below has a great deal of significance for me for many reasons:

Though it’s super short, it still manages to showcase some of my favorite photographs of Day of Dead in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico – our other home base (and alternate reality).

It represents a celebration of my birth in the country of my birth. (Yes I was born on “Day of the Dead” in Mexico.)

It shows me having fun with one of my dearest friends, Nancy.

It shows some of the most beautifully costumed humans (among thousands) – gathered in one place.

It shows people celebrating the present moment with deep reverence for the past. All at the same time!

It features some of the most impressive altar installations to the dearly departed I’ve ever seen.

It reminds me not to take myself too seriously.

It reminds me that life and death go together. You can’t have one without the other.

It reminds me what it means to “re-member” – in the best and truest sense of the word: to call back, gather, and reclaim the parts of myself that tend to get forgotten, neglected, or lost.

In that spirit, what would you like to call back, reclaim, and celebrate? Who would you like to honor from your past? What are you ready to bless and release?

Let today be a day to remember.

P.S. If you’d like to create an “Altar of Letting Go,” this LINK will show you how.

Happy Día de los Muertos everyone!
